APPLICATIONS: Word Processing

Microsoft Word is NOT the only Word Processor in town!
There are DOZENS of different computer "applications" that allows you to compose, format and edit word processing documents
(Other useful applications include "OpenOffice", "Notepad", "WordPerfect", "Appleworks" among others)

Our school board is currently promoting "OpenOffice" because it's freely available to schools and to students for home installation, and it's features are comparable to MS Office. There are two other "word processors" we'll use in the course:

Caution: These applications come without any form of warranty - some colleagues and students have warned that they've had problems saving OpenOffice Write documents longer than six pages. We will save backups often and find out for ourselves how much we can demand of the program. There are other issues discussed at the Wikipedia
